"Lula’s Brew" iPhone / iPod Touch Review: Love It!

Submitted by on October 29, 2009 – 11:35 PMNo Comment

My son loves my iPod Touch, and I mean he loves it. So in an effort to have him at least attempt to learn something, I have been trying to download more education applications and stories. Aidan especially loves all the book apps. which are basically books that are read aloud and usually have illustrations to go along. I love it because it is reading to him and he thinks it’s a game as he flips the pages of the book!

One iPod Touch / iPhone app. I recently got to try out is called “Lula’s Brew.” It is a story about young with who lives with her witch aunties. Rather than go along with their spells and witch responsibilities, Lula loves to cook! It is an adorable story and actually quite long so it is definitely worth the $1.99. The narrator has a lovely voice and she even changes her voice when speaking for the different characters. My absolute favorite part though is the colorful illustrations. They are so vivid and really make the story all the better. Even though Halloween is just a few days away, I think the app. is perfect for anytime and it is too cute to miss!

About the book:

“Lula’s Brew” is a children’s book written and illustrated by award-winning author Elizabeth O. Dulemba. Her most recent book, as author and illustrator, is “Soap, Soap, Soap (Jabón, Jabón, Jabón).” Now, she’s brought her magic to the iPhone and iPod Touch! As the reader swipes the pages, Elizabeth brings the story to life on the voice track.

About the story:

Lula’s Aunties want her to be a witch just like them. But Lula hates to fly on a broom and prefers to study cookbooks rather than spellbooks — she wants to be a famous chef. In desperation, the Aunties insist she try to make one last potion. Lula secretly adds her cooking flair and in true witchy fashion ends up creating a brew that bewitches the entire town, and maybe her Aunties too! This fun rhyming tale transcends the typical Halloween story to appeal to cooks and “foodies” throughout the year.
